Meet Dr. Carpenter

Dr. Carpenter believes that every person carries an inner light — and sometimes, we just need a safe place to rest so that light can grow again.

Originally from St. Louis, Dr. Carpenter completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Louis University, earned his medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania, and went on to complete his psychiatry residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He has practiced psychiatry at the MU Center for Mental Wellness in Jefferson City since 2016.

Dr Carpenter’s career reflects a deep commitment to caring for those who care for others. He has served as the Medical Director for the Missouri Medical Professionals Health and Wellness Program (MO PHP) since 2016, supporting physicians and healthcare professionals in recovery, resilience, and restored purpose. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and serves as Regional Medical Director for multiple opioid use disorder treatment centers within Behavioral Health Group.

In 2020, he became Chief Wellness Officer at Capital Region Medical Center, leading a hospital-wide effort to elevate clinician well-being. Wanting to support individuals even more deeply, Dr. Carpenter completed a 9-month training through The Physician Coaching Institute and earned certification as a Master Physician Development Coach, partnering with physicians and advanced practice providers to help them rediscover joy, meaning, and alignment in their work and relationships.

At Alight Family Integrative Wellness, Dr. Carpenter expanded his practice to include children, adolescents, and families, recognizing the need for comprehensive care across all stages of life within the Cale Collective. His style combines integrative holistic psychiatry, lifestyle coaching, and spiritual support — always honoring the whole person.

His approach is calm, compassionate, and collaborative — a place to land, and a place to rise.

Our Principles.

Integrative Holistic Psychiatry

We use evidence-based psychiatric care that honors both science and the lived human experience.

Medication can be a tool—but never the whole answer. We combine thoughtful prescribing with lifestyle medicine, nutrition, sleep, movement, and mind-body practices.

Lifestyle as Medicine

The rhythms of daily life shape emotional health.

We help families create sustainable habits that support resilience, clarity, and joy.

Connection Heals

Relationships are central to wellness.

By nurturing communication, safety, and repair, we help individuals and families rediscover belonging and trust.

Spirituality Gives Meaning

We honor the spiritual dimension of each person - whether expressed through faith, purpose, gratitude, or meaning-making.

We do not impose belief; we create space for reflection, grounding, and hope.

Collaboration, Not Hierarchy

We do not “fix” people.

We partner with them. Every person is the expert of their own story.
